15 Best Honeymoon Destinations on a Budget
Whether you’re searching for the best honeymoon destinations on a budget in the US or a budget-friendly honeymoon at an all-inclusive, these are the top budget honeymoon destinations in the world!
1. Puerto Rico
Aside from not needing your passport if you’re a US citizen, you can find many cheap flights to Puerto Rico!
On top of that, there is affordable accommodation in San Juan, and there are ample amazing places to explore on this stunning Caribbean island.
A must-do in Puerto Rico has to be to visit the miraculous bioluminescent bays. The one on Vieques called Mosquito Bay is the brightest bio bay in the entire world! It is other-worldly and pure magic to explore.
Enjoy things like surfing or beach hopping in Rincon, driving along the Pork Highway, getting adventurous in the El Yunque National Forest, dancing the night away in San Juan, or snorkeling in Vieques.
Either way, you can enjoy these bucket list-worthy activities while also saving money. It’s a win-win for all.

2. One of the Best Beach Honeymoon Destinations on a Budget: Belize
Belize is a fantastic destination that is also friendly on the wallet. First of all, this tiny country in Central America packs a punch with things like the world’s 2nd largest great barrier reef system, Mayan ruins, the Blue Hole, opportunities for cave tubing and zip lining, and more!
And the best part is you could easily base yourself in one spot and take day trips in between beach days here. We stayed in Hopkins on our last trip to Belize and took day trips including to the ruins of Xunantunich, the inland blue hole, ziplining, and snorkeling on the reef.
Plus, you can stay at a place like Hopkins Bay Resort for a week for around $1,150! Another great place to base yourself is Placencia.
Laru Beya Resort offers an all-inclusive package starting at $3,180 for 6 nights and includes local food and drinks, transportation from the Belize main airport to the hotel, and a one-bedroom oceanfront suite!
So if you’re searching for a honeymoon destination with all-inclusive packages on a budget, Belize, and Laru Beya Resort are it.
Either way, you’ll love Belize as you dive into the beauty, culture, and adventure of this magnificent country!

3. Mexico
Mexico is generally a pretty budget-friendly honeymoon destination to visit. Whether you want to eat your way around Mexico City, explore the stunning towns of San Miguel de Allende or San Cristobal de las Casas, or enjoy the beaches of the Yucatan Peninsula, you’ll find you can travel here without needing a ton of money to do so.
For a dreamy getaway in Mexico, check out the stunning Isla Holbox where you can enjoy lovely beaches and even the chance to book an adventure to go swimming with whale sharks!
A great hotel idea on Holbox is the Beachfront Hotel La Palapa where you can stay for 6 nights for about $1,500 depending on when you visit!
Yes, you can explore the lovely country of Mexico and discover the cuisine, culture, and nature of this place without breaking the bank.
4. Costa Rica is One of the Top Budget Honeymoon Destinations
When it comes to honeymoon budget destinations, Costa Rica is certainly at the top of the list. Here, you can enjoy anything from soaking in hot springs or zip lining in La Fortuna to hiking through a cloud forest in Monteverde or even learning to surf in the Nicoya Peninsula.
And the best part is that this isn’t an expensive place to do this. Stay in places like Tamarindo at the North Tamarindo Beach Hotel or La Fortuna at Hotel Secreto La Fortuna for less than $125 per night!
Plus, you can rent a car for a fairly inexpensive price, and eating and drinking are also pretty cheap here.
It really doesn’t cost a ton of money to explore this amazing country full of adventure, beaches, wildlife, and romance!
5. Vietnam is One of the Unique Honeymoon Destinations on a Budget
During our 3-week Southeast Asia honeymoon, we were lucky enough to visit Vietnam, and man was it beautiful! We got to explore both Hanoi and Halong Bay and let me tell you, if you’re searching for a stunning budget destination for your honeymoon, this is it.
Vietnam is an incredibly affordable place to travel around. Honestly, once you get to Vietnam, you can splurge on 4 and 5-star accommodations for sometimes less than $100 per night.
We went out to eat for $6 for the two of us, and even our Halong Bay cruise was budget-friendly!
Seriously, whether you want to explore cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, or you want to get out in nature in Sapa or Halong Bay, you’re going to love it here! Plus, for those who want to go to the beach, you can head to Phu Quoc Island for fun in the sun.
This country really has it all and is very affordable, meaning you can enjoy romance and adventure without draining your savings.
6. Thailand
Thailand is another budget-friendly country for your honeymoon. Between exciting cities like Chiang Mai and Bangkok and stunning islands like Koh Lanta or Koh Lipe, you’ll also fall in love with this place.
I’ll be honest, it isn’t as inexpensive as Vietnam, but it is certainly cheaper than most destinations. We were able to grab lunch in Chiang Mai for about $6 each and dinners were also inexpensive.
Even in places like Koh Lipe, you could rent a boat and captain for a day and go snorkeling for really cheap. And you can even stay in a beach bungalow just steps from the sea here for about $250 per night. However, there are far cheaper accommodations you can enjoy here too for less than $100 per night.
And for a 5-star resort in Chiang Mai, like the Akyra Manor, you can even snag rooms for less than $200 per night. For other hotels like the 4-star Thai Akara, you can even get rooms under $100 per night!
It truly is a great place for budget travelers, plus Thailand is a very romantic honeymoon destination!

7. One of the Best Budget-Friendly Honeymoon Destinations: Italy
Yes, you can do Italy on a budget. Thanks to its vast train system, getting around the country is very affordable. Plus, if you choose less touristy places, you can actually have a very affordable honeymoon.
For starters, if you want beaches, it is best to avoid places like the Cinque Terre or Amalfi Coast and opt for Puligia instead. It is less expensive and less crowded than these more popular spots.
Head to Gallipoli and the Bastioni San Domenico Boutique Hotel for a delightful getaway with views overlooking the sea that won’t break your budget.
Or, for wine lovers, opt to explore Piedmont rather than Tuscany. For the foodies, check out Bologna and Modena!
And even in Rome, you can find budget-friendly hotels outside of the main touristy areas. We loved staying in Trastevere, an adorable neighborhood in Rome. We stayed at the Residenza San Calisto there and it was less than $200 per night.
So yes, if you can find a good flight deal to Italy, you can certainly do it well on a budget!

8. Budget Honeymoon Destinations in the US: National Parks!
Love hiking and exploring some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world? The US National Parks offer this and more!
Plus, you can visit many of these national parks for really good prices!
Enjoy the stunning Glacier National Park for a week where you can go on breathtaking hikes, raft in glacial water, kayak on one of the many beautiful lakes, and potentially spot epic wildlife!
Check out my Glacier National Park budget guide here!
Rent a cabin in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and admire the waterfalls, mountain views, and nearby towns.
Joshua Tree National Park is absolutely romantic with epic desert hikes as well as beautiful sunrises and sunsets.
But seriously, if you want to enjoy national parks like Acadia or Yellowstone, you can typically find places to stay at an affordable cost. These may not be places right within the park, but there are typically vacation rentals nearby that are affordable, and if you get a national park pass, it is very inexpensive to visit these national parks!
Book your accommodations and rental car early for the best deals and enjoy time spent in nature with just the two of you.
9. Budget Honeymoon Destinations in the US: Tybee Island, Georgia
Tybee Island is a seriously romantic destination. It is also pretty easy to get to! Fly into Savannah and take a taxi to Tybee Island for a dreamy getaway.
It is definitely worth the splurge to stay at the Tybee Island Inn, but they will treat you so well with their southern hospitality.
For about $1,000 you can spend 6 nights here in their lovely rooms, and the hotel isn’t far from the beach.
Rent bikes or a golf cart and enjoy exploring this island as well as having some relaxing beach days together. Plus, it isn’t as packed in the early summer quite like it is in more popular beach destinations in the south like Myrtle Beach.
Eating here is pretty cheap, meaning you can have a dreamy Tybee Island honeymoon for a very affordable price!
10. Slovenia
With its caves, castles, lakes, and beaches, you’re going to fall head-over-heels for this country. But you’re going to want to go now- word is spreading quickly about this budget-friendly European honeymoon destination!
Rent a car and explore places like Lake Bled, Lake Bohinj, Skocjan Caves, Predjama Castle, the capital city of Ljubljana, and the beachside resort city called Piran.
You can find lovely places to stay in Piran for as little as $85 per night like the B&B Miracolo di Mare.
Even in the popular Lake Bled area, you can find affordable hotels like the Hotel Astoria Bled.
Slovenia really does have it all with beautiful mountains, lakes, cities, and beaches. So for an epic and wallet-friendly honeymoon locale, this is the place.
11. Peru is Among the Best Honeymoon Destinations on a Budget
Between the Amazon Rainforest, Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley, and more, Peru is certainly a dreamy South American honeymoon destination, and it isn’t hard to see why.
Peru has a lot to offer for those who seek adventure, wildlife spotting, relaxation in the mountains, or love history.
And yes, you can do this on a budget! You can book affordable tours of the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu for a reasonable price. Cusco is a great budget-friendly destination to explore, and you’ll love checking out the food scene in Lima without the high prices.
I highly recommend Rumi Wasi in Cusco for a lovely honeymoon hotel with epic views from the hotel balcony.
There are even inexpensive ways to see the Amazon Rainforest too! I’ll admit that the Tambopata Research Center wasn’t the cheapest at $830 per night, but it was an adventure and we saw so much including 2 jaguars!
But you can also stay near Iquitos at the Maniti Eco-Lodge for 3 nights for about $625 per person!
Check out a trip to Peru cost here!
12. South Africa is Your Best Bet For a Budget Safari Destination
I’ll be the first to admit that many African destinations aren’t exactly budget-friendly, especially destinations where you can go on a safari.
And if you’ve seen our guide on how much an African safari costs, the sticker shock may scare you. Trust me, it scared us at first too!
But if you want a great bang-for-your-buck safari experience that won’t break the bank, South Africa is the place to do it!
Now to save the most amount of money, booking a group trip via Intrepid Travel is best. Don’t worry- you’ll have your own tent together. I highly recommend this 5-day Kruger safari from Johannesburg. This costs about $1,448 per person, making it a great deal for a safari adventure!
Outside of going on safaris, South Africa is a pretty affordable place to visit. Cape Town is full of charm, great food, and many lovely sights that you can do on a budget. And even wine tasting in the Cape Winelands is affordable.
So if you’re dreaming of going on a safari for your honeymoon, but don’t want to drain your life savings, this is a great option!
Check out our 2-week South Africa itinerary, 10-day South Africa trip, and how much a trip to South Africa costs here!
13. Morocco
Morocco is actually a pretty inexpensive destination for travelers. You can book hotels for reasonable prices, and eating is also cheap.
For a great trip without a ton of planning, you can even book a group tour! Don’t worry, like above, you have your own private room together.
Opt for this lovely 8-day Intrepid trip through Morocco including stops in Fes, the Sahara, Ait Benhaddou, and Marrakech for $1,425 per person! This includes most breakfasts and half your dinners, transportation, hotels, and more activities for only $2,850 for the two of you!
Add on your flight, other meals (which aren’t terribly expensive in Morocco), and perhaps a few other activities and you still have a pretty budget-friendly trip!
14. Spain is Among the Budget Destinations For a Honeymoon
Spain is actually a really affordable country to visit on your honeymoon. I mean sure, some resorts on the famous islands can be pricy, but there is a lot to see and do in this country that is very affordable.
Explore the stunning city of Seville and perhaps watch a flamenco show or take a day trip to see the Alhambra Palace.
Enjoy the beachside city of Barcelona and the capital city of Madrid before exploring the wine region of Rioja.
For lovely beaches, opt for the Basque country. You can find great rentals on VRBO for places like San Sebastian!
And if you are dreaming of a Spanish island getaway, you can also find affordable VRBO rentals on the island of Mallorca!
15. Colombia is One of the Best Honeymoon Destinations on a Budget
Last, but not least on this list, is the South American country of Colombia. Whether you want to enjoy the coastal city of Cartagena, explore the vibrant city of Medellin, walk amongst the towering wax palm trees in Cocora Valley, admire Tayrona National Park for its beaches and jungles, snorkel off the Rosario Islands, and more, there is a lot to see and do in Colombia.
And it is an incredibly affordable place to do all of this! Hotels are affordable, and meals are pretty cheap.
So you can enjoy your lovely honeymoon without the crazy costs of many other places.
For a great stay in Cartagena, the Hotel Boutique las Carretas is a dreamy place and the Hyatt Regency Cartagena is an affordable getaway overlooking the sea.
For a beach getaway, check out the lovely Hotel Playa Manglares on Isla Baru, and for a coffee escape check out the Hacienda Combia near Armenia.
Tips For Saving Money On Your Honeymoon
While these are some great honeymoon destinations on a budget, there are even more ways to save money. Here are some extra tips for the best honeymoon destinations for a low budget.
- Travel in the off-season or shoulder season. Many hotels and even flights offer better deals for traveling in the off-season or shoulder season. As there are fewer people traveling during this time, you’ll have both fewer crowds and cheaper accommodation. Off-season and shoulder season could see less desirable weather, but rarely means it is raining all the time. However, you’ll want to probably avoid the Caribbean during peak hurricane season and opt for shoulder season around May.
- Look for deals. Some hotels offer things like all-inclusive packages or even stay-longer deals. So be on the lookout for ways to save money by checking out these deals and packages in many places.
- Travel hacking can save quite a bit of money! Wedding planning is a great time to start travel hacking (as long as you can pay your credit card bill in full each month!). With all the deposits, payments, etc. you’ll easily hit the minimum spending requirements on cards to get huge bonuses in points. You can use these points to book flights and hotels during your honeymoon to widdle down your expenses even more! In fact, we used points to fly business class to Southeast Asia on our honeymoon for only $120! And then we had a very affordable honeymoon.
I’ve used miles and points to fly to Peru, Belize, Italy, St Lucia, Costa Rica, and more! So you can drive down the cost of flights significantly by using miles and points! I’ve also booked many hotels on points before too.
These are the 15 best budget honeymoon destinations around the world from places in the US to Europe and many in between. Yes, you can certainly have an affordable honeymoon without having to miss out on anything!
