An Italy honeymoon itinerary is idyllic. There are the sun-drenched beaches of the Mediterranean, the eternal city of Rome, and the romantic, canal-lined Venice. Italy honeymoon ideas are truly endless!
This also makes planning a 7-day, 10-day, or even a 2-week honeymoon in Italy quite the challenge. Italy is a country full of exciting cities and villages, great wine regions, incredible beaches (it is a peninsula, after all), and so much more.
Thankfully, we’re here to help you figure out how to plan the best Italy honeymoon itinerary whether you’ve got 7 or 10 days. Plus, as a bonus, we’ve got some ideas for a 2 week Italy honeymoon too!
Without further ado, let’s dive into the best way to spend your honeymoon in Italy!
Ultimate 7-Day Italy Honeymoon Itinerary
So perhaps you’re short on time and are still dreaming of an Italian honeymoon. We get it. In fact, we also recently only had 7 days in Italy where we explored some off-the-beaten-path spots with our limited time.
While I could give you a standard 7-day Italy honeymoon itinerary, there are so many options that you may want to enjoy based on your preferences. So here are some great ideas for your 7-day honeymoon in Italy.
Option 1 First Timer Italy Honeymoon Guide: Milan, Florence, & Rome
- Day 1: Milan
- Days 2-3: Florence
- Day 4: Tuscany Wineries Day Trip
- Day 5-7: Rome
This is definitely a great Italian honeymoon itinerary where you could fly into Milan and spend a full day exploring the Duomo, admire the Last Supper painting at Santa Maria Delle Grazie, and enjoy this exciting northern Italian city.
I actually recommend checking out this Walks of Italy Milan tour that includes a guided tour of the Duomo, Last Supper Museum, and the city. This is a great option if you fly in the evening before.
Then, you’re off to explore the Renaissance city of Florence. Walk along the Ponte Vecchio, admire works of art at the Uffizi Gallery, see the statue of David, and wander this endlessly charming city.
Spend day 4 on a day trip exploring the wineries of Tuscany before spending your last few days in Rome.
Go on a tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum, see the Vatican as it opens for the day, toss a coin in the Trevi Fountain together, eat all the delicious Roman delights like Carbonara and Roman pizza, and spot ancient ruins throughout the city.
This is a great way to spend your time in Italy for your 1 week Italy honeymoon.

This is actually the itinerary we just did while we were in Italy in May of 2022. It was such a fun trip where we began with a day of exploring Milan before spending 2 days in Piedmont, sipping wine in many vineyards and exploring hilltop towns with Alba Wine Tours.
Then, we took the train to Bologna to visit and eat all the tasty food from the Emilia-Romagna region. We also did a day trip to Modena while there to take a food tour and try balsamic vinegar. This region is also known for its Mortadella, Parmesano Reggiano, Bolognese, tortellini, and more!
And lastly, we spent a couple of days in Rome where we saw the Colosseum and Vatican! I highly recommend this Italy honeymoon trip in 7 days if you are short on time and want to do something less crowded and more food and wine-focused.

Start your honeymoon in Naples for a day and take a day trip to Capri, the Amalfi Coast, or perhaps Pompeii.
Then, take the train to Puglia and rent a car for the ultimate road trip around Italy’s heel. Explore the exciting city of Bari before wandering to the charming beehive-shaped Trulli houses in Alberobello.
Then, enjoy the Baroque architecture and Roman ruins of Lecce. Of course, being the heel of Italy’s boot, there are ample beaches to enjoy during your time there!
After that road trip, head back to the train station in Bari and head to Rome for your last couple of days in Italy.

What to Do For a 2-Week Italy Honeymoon
I know that I’ve given you a ton of options when it comes to both 7 and 10-day Italy honeymoon itineraries. But what if you are planning a honeymoon to Italy and have 2 weeks?
First of all, that’s amazing! Spending a full 2 weeks in Italy sounds absolutely incredible, and something many Americans don’t get to do (thanks no federally mandated time off).
But, I’ll keep it simple here as there are endless options if you have a two-week honeymoon in Italy itinerary!
First of all, you could spend an entire 2 weeks just exploring Italy’s vast and incredible islands. That’s right. Rent a car in both Sicily AND Sardinia and explore these beautiful islands including their cities, beaches, vineyards, and more.
Spend a week on each of these islands and you’ll leave understanding so much more about these relaxing and enticing destinations.
OR
You could pick one of the 10-day itineraries listed above and add on another city or destination for 4 days!
Planning a northern Italy 14-day honeymoon? Then take the 10-day itinerary and add on a few days in the Cinque Terre before flying out of Milan.
Or you could take the typical 10-day itinerary of Venice, Florence, and Rome and add on the Amalfi Coast.
Want to explore Milan, Piedmont, Cinque Terre, Bologna, and Rome? Then take that 10-day itinerary and either add an extra day in Milan, Piedmont and Rome OR add in some time on the Amalfi Coast or even check out Ravenna while in Emilia-Romagna.
And if you want to explore southern Italy with Puglia, swap out Naples for some time on the Amalfi Coast before exploring Puglia and Rome. Also, you could add in an extra day in Rome here because it’s a big city with much to explore.
Essentially, the options are kind of endless, especially if you have more time. While 2 weeks won’t cover the whole country, it is a ton of time to see a big chunk of Italy on your honeymoon.
You can also use this time to really slow down and enjoy places very slowly. Truly it’s up to you.
Tips For Your Italy Honeymoon Guide
When it comes to planning your Italy honeymoon, here are some things to keep in mind.
How to Get Around Italy: While the train system is a great way to get around Italy, some more remote destinations and less touristy places may require a car. Check Rentalcars.com for great deals! Renting a car can be a great idea for places like Lake Como, the Dolomites, Puglia, and the islands.
For Train Travel: We checked Trenitalia and booked tickets there!
When to Visit Italy: It all depends on what you want to do! If you want to ski in the mountains, then winter is obviously the time to go! Want to enjoy beaches? Summer through early fall is best. Want to avoid crowds and have decent weather (AKA not too hot or cold)? Opt for April and October.
Forget Your Diet: Seriously. Italy is full of amazing food from its pasta to its pastries and apertivos to its wine and you don’t want to miss a thing. Enjoy every sip and morsel.
How Much To Budget: Trying to figure out how much an Italy honeymoon costs? We have a whole post!
Have Fun: Have an incredible honeymoon in Italy itinerary! You’re going to fall in love with this country and plan your return as soon as you leave!
Italy is truly an incredible country to visit. It is filled to the brim with romance from its enchanting hilltop villages, its wildly romantic cities, and its delectable cuisine. A honeymoon here is a dreamy start to married life and I cannot recommend it enough.
