Honeymoon in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park

This is easily the most famous when it comes to honeymoon destinations in Tennessee. There are ample romantic honeymoon cabins in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Sevierville, plenty of places to enjoy a great adventurous hike, and so many beautiful spots to escape in the Great Smoky Mountains to witness cascading waterfalls, dreamy mountain peaks, and wildlife.

Plus, if you opt to stay in a romantic cabin in Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge, you’ll be in for a treat complete with beautiful nature scenery outdoors, a cozy fireplace, and even a hot tub. There is nothing more romantic than watching a sunset from a hot tub in a hidden cabin! It is truly a romantic national park honeymoon spot!

What To Do During a Gatlinburg Honeymoon or Pigeon Forge Honeymoon:

While you could spend the entire time in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Sevierville, I highly recommend spending a majority of the time exploring the Smokies themselves. Here are the top things to do for a Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, or Gatlinburg honeymoon including the Smokies:

  • Go on incredible hikes around the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (these are the top 10 hikes including a hidden waterfall and fantastic mountain tops!)
  • Drive Cades Cove to spot wildlife and historical sights
  • Have a playful day at Dollywood
  • Ride above the mountains at Gatlinburg Skylift Park
  • Get adventurous with ziplining with Smoky Mountain Ziplines
  • Sip wine at Smoky Mountain Winery, Mountain Valley Winery, or Sugarland Cellars
  • Go on a distillery tour for moonshine at Ole Smoky Moonshine Distillery, Sugarlands Distilling Company, Doc Collier Distillery, or Old Forge Distillery
  • Enjoy a cold beer at Gatlinburg Brewing Company or Smoky Mountain Brewing Company
  • Catch your own dinner and have a chef prepare it for you at Tuckaleechee Trout Farm and Restaurant
  • Enjoy delicious local food at The Local Goat and The Old Mill Restaurant
  • Admire the fall foliage in the month of October

Where to Stay:

There are SO many options for where to stay and what kind of accommodation you should stay in during your honeymoon. However, when it comes to where to stay, hands-down Gatlinburg is the best place to base yourself as it is closest to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Then, Pigeon Forge is next, and lastly is Sevierville, which is a bit further away, meaning you’ll have to spend more time driving into the park itself. However, Sevierville is great if you are on a budget, because it is further out.

As far as where to stay, there are plenty of hotels, cabin rentals, camping options, and more around the area.

Luckily, many romantic cabins in the Great Smoky Mountains can be found on VRBO, which is much easier than searching cabin websites. Here are links to check out VRBO in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Sevierville:

If you are on a budget, then camping is an option. I recommend Cades Cove Campground or Cosby Campground as they are close to some incredible scenery and hikes. Cosby Campground is only $17.50 per night and Cades Cove is $25 per night.

If you’d prefer to stay at the only lodge in the park, a hike up to Mt LeConte Lodge is a must and an overnight or two is super romantic for gorgeous mountain sunrises and sunsets. The price is $162 per person, per night and includes breakfast and dinner.

Lastly, if you’d prefer the traditional route of booking a hotel, here are some great hotels in the area based on budget:

Budget: Clarion Pointe Downtown Gatlinburg

Just outside the downtown area of Gatlinburg, you’re within walking distance to Gatlinburg Brewing Company and many bars and restaurants. This is only about $100 per night.

When to Visit For a Honeymoon in Tennessee

A honeymoon in Tennessee is perfect anytime of year, but some times are busier than others.

Winter is pretty calm and quiet in a lot of places, especially in the Smokies and Big South Fork. Some trails may even be closed during the winter months. However, you’ll find incredible deals this time of year on hotels.

Spring and Fall are ideal for outdoor activities and to beat the heat and see wildflowers in the spring or witness fall foliage in the autumn months. For cities, these are also fantastic times of year to visit, as summers in Tennessee can be quite hot. However, there will be crowds in some places.

Summer will bring in the most crowds and it is the hottest time of year. If you plan to go hiking, it is best to start early in the morning, and expect hotel and cabin prices to increase this time of year.

Cades Cove Smoky Mountains

Budget for a Honeymoon in Tennessee

A budget for a Tennessee honeymoon greatly depends on when, where, and how long you plan to go. Most hotels are right around $100-200 per night, and activities are fairly inexpensive. Expect to spend about $50-100 per day on food and drinks for the two of you, depending on your preferences.

And gas is something to factor in your budget, as many cities and hiking paths require a car to reach them. You also will need to rent a car if you’re flying to Tennessee because of this.

On our last trip to Tennessee, we spent around $700 for 4 days in the Smokies including our cabin rental, food and drinks, and gas. Hiking is free.

For bigger cities like Nashville, I’d expect to spend about $100 per day or more on eating and drinking as a huge attraction is partying at Honky Tonk or blues bars. Expect to spend about $200-300 per day including lodging, food, and activities in a big city like Nashville for the two of you.
